Yurushi Restaurant

Yurushi Restaurant
Japanese Cuisine
Location: Corner Suazo St., & Uyanguren (Davao City)
Parking Space: None

I'm a big fan of Japanese restaurants, and would usually visit one at least once a month.. I heard from a good friend that Yurushi Restaurant is one of the cheapest Japanese restaurant in the city (indeed!).

Just last weekend, I went to the restaurant to satisfy my cravings for Japanese food.  Yurushi restaurant was one of my picks since its very accessible and easy to go to. The restaurant is very similar to Japanese sushi bars in Japan and comes close to what we commonly have in the Philippines which are the local "carenderias". Overall, the restaurant is small but they maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
They have a ground floor which has a small area for dining. It was very interesting to see a mirror in front of you while eating. I could definitely see the other customers (including me) checking themselves out while eating.  (when vanity strikes haha) They have a second floor which offers a larger area for dining; round tables and more seats that could cater to a large family or  the "barkada".

Yurushi offers a variety of affordable Japanese food that you can choose from.

In my case, I decided to stray from my usual and went ahead to order their "Katsudon" (Katsu=pork, don=bowl).

Honestly speaking, the presentation, taste and looks of this rice bowl did not meet my expectations. It was too sweet for my taste buds and the pork mostly had the "taba" and almost had no meat in it. But given that its very cheap (Php 68.00) I guess it's enough to satisfy a hungry stomach or if I may say, It's enough to be a meal  for "pangtawid gutom".

I have yet to go back and try other rice bowls that they have on their menu.

Will keep you posted!

Life of Pi

(Fox 2000 picture)
I have recently watched the movie Life of Pi, though i haven't read the book yet I found the movie very interesting with its light and peculiarly amusing plot.

Book Cover

The movie is about Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel who at a young age, struggled to determine his spirituality. In his adult life, Pi was visited by an aspiring writer who urges him to tell his life tales, particularly the story that will make him believe in God.

As Pi recounts his life events: his unusual uncle, how he got his name, how he was ridiculed in his young life, his first love and him leaving his hometown and letting go of their family business; zoo, the story is then directed toward his shipwreck experience where he tries to survive being stranded in a boat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, the story is such an incredible tale of endurance that even as a work of fiction, its difficult to accept.

After surviving the ordeal, Pi was visited in the hospital by two marines who are investigating the shipwreck, the two marines wanted to hear a believable story from Pi, so he decided to deliver a bland version of his survival, one of which Pi provides an alternative take on the events where humans portray the animals in his original story .

At the end of the movie both the marines and the viewer will have the chance to contemplate which story of Pi to believe in. In my opinion, believing in Pi's first story is like believing in your religion, you dont have an exact proof that it happened and it exists, but you still choose to believe in it. Having heard the second story of Pi, which consisted of his family and ship crew is indeed more plausible, but it was depressing and insipid. Unlike the first anecdote which is full of variety or interest, the second version failed to provide a different point of view in ones life it was less challenging, less descriptive, non animated and blank. Overall, I loved the movie, its an eye-opener and will surely make you put yourself in Pi's shoe or this case, his boat. :)

giving birth to my first blog

Writing interesting blogs is a difficult task specially for first timers like me. In fact, I had to ponder for hours before I was able to start this post. I have to take into consideration a lot of things such as creating a catchy headline, the actual length of my post, and even the words I will be using.

My goal is to share unique stories to readers. Stories which everyone will enjoy reading and sharing to others.

I have decided to create blogs with no particular theme or subject. I will just base everything on my life experiences, day to day encounters, adventures, personal opinions and etc.

With constant practice, I hope to write excellent articles and reviews in the near future. Will post more blogs soon!
